The hashtag #Supporting_Central_Decisions_Aden (#ندعم_قرارات_مركزي_عدن) took center stage on Yemen's social media platforms on Saturday, June 1, 2024. The hashtag gained momentum as a show of support for the recent decisions issued by the Yemeni Central Bank in the proclaimed temporary capital city of Aden.

Scores of Yemeni activists, including officials, journalists, and media personalities both within the country and abroad, participated in the trending movement. The hashtag garnered approximately 9,000 posts by 11 p.m., accompanied by videos and designs affirming their support for the Central Bank. These actions come amidst an economic war against the internationally recognized terrorist-designated Houthi group.

Fahd Talib Al-Sharafi, an advisor in the Ministry of Information, wrote: "#Supporting_Central_Decisions_Aden, which has been long overdue. The economic truce has remained one-sided, with the legitimacy, while the Houthis continue their economic warfare against the nation and its citizens."

In his post, Al-Sharafi called upon those he referred to as "neutrality advocates" within the third line to cease "troubling us with talk about humanitarian aspects. Those who respect humanity should confront the Houthis and their evils." Meanwhile, Abdul Basit Al-Qa'adi, Deputy Minister of Information, regarded any action taken by the Central Bank as an attempt to salvage these banks, protect their remaining assets, and preserve their relationships and dealings with the local and international community.

Al-Qa'adi added that the Central Bank "does not engage in reactive measures against criminal and provocative practices, nor does it seek escalation or complications." He emphasized that the bank had provided ample space and significant opportunities for those attempting to reach fair solutions that alleviate the suffering of the people in all provinces affected by these militias. Additionally, it aimed to safeguard our private, public, and mixed financial institutions, sparing them significant losses and complications.

He affirmed that the bank will continue to fulfill its duties towards the people and their institutions in collaboration with international financial institutions and active partners among brothers and friends.

Under the same hashtag, journalist Mustafa Ghalees stated, "The Bank of Sana'a will compensate citizens with a new currency in exchange for the old one, most of which was seized from the people."

He further questioned, "Where are the funds confiscated by these thieves? Surely, they will compensate the people with what they seized and stole."

Meanwhile, journalist Abdullah Al-Monifi wrote, "The Houthi militia has destroyed the mechanisms and foundations of the market based on supply and demand in the economy. They have used their malicious means for illicit gain and as a source of funding for the destructive and chaotic activities of the militias' wars."

Journalist Abdullah Isma'il stated, "The government has continued to pay salaries in areas under Houthi occupation to employees of the Ministry of Health, Sana'a University, the judiciary, and retirees." He added, "In 2019, the Houthi group prohibited the circulation of the new national currency, depriving tens of thousands of employees of their salaries."
