Aden, Yemen - Lieutenant General Mohsen al-Daeri, the Defense Minister of Yemen, briefed the United Nations on Sunday regarding the escalating activities of the internationally designated terrorist group, the Houthis, in the Al-Abdiyah area located in the southern part of Marib Governorate in northeastern Yemen.

The briefing took place during a meeting between Minister al-Daeri, accompanied by Brigadier General Bashir al-Sabahi, the Commander of the Shield of the Nation Forces, and Anthony Hayward, the Military Advisor to the UN Envoy to Yemen. The meeting was held in Aden, the temporary capital of the country, as reported by the official Yemeni news agency, Saba.

According to the agency, the meeting focused on the Houthi's recent escalation on multiple fronts, including their attack on the Al-Abdiyah front in Marib Governorate, which occurred on Saturday and resulted in the deaths of six members of the Giants Forces, with several others injured.

Minister al-Daeri emphasized that the Houthi militia cannot be trusted to achieve peace as they have continuously violated agreements and breached covenants. He highlighted the high level of coordination and cooperation among the armed forces and military formations in countering Houthi attacks, as well as the affiliated terrorist organizations such as al-Qaeda and ISIS.

Furthermore, al-Daeri informed the UN military official about the arrival of Iranian ships from the port of Bandar Abbas directly to Hodeidah without undergoing inspection. He stated that this serves as evidence of the ongoing flow of Iranian weapons and the presence of experts who manage the militia's operations in the Red Sea.

The Defense Minister emphasized that the Houthi militia's presence in areas overlooking international navigation poses a continued threat and blackmail to the region and the world, given its classification as a terrorist group globally.

In response, the UN envoy's military advisor affirmed that efforts are ongoing to contain the escalation and encourage the parties to return to the dialogue table to reach a roadmap for lasting peace in Yemen, according to the agency.

The meeting occurred shortly after the Giants Forces announced their successful repelling of a violent attack launched by Houthi militia gunmen on their positions in the Al-Jofra area of the Al-Abdiyah directorate, situated in the southern part of Marib. The attack resulted in the deaths of six members of the Giants Forces.

The Giants Forces have been stationed in the Hareeb directorate and the Al-Jofra isolation, which are part of the Al-Abdiyah directorate in the south of Marib, since their liberation in January 2022. The liberation was carried out through a large-scale military operation with the support of the Saudi-led Arab coalition.
