Deadly Ambush Claims Lives of Local Council Secretary-General and Son in Shabwa Province, Eastern Yemen

Shabwa Province, Yemen - A tribal source from Shabwa Province in eastern Yemen has reported an alarming rise in casualties resulting from a targeted armed ambush against Abdulrab Hashla Al-Mas'abi, the Secretary-General of the local council. The attack has now claimed the lives of four individuals, including his son.

According to sources close to "Barran Press," the armed ambush was orchestrated by tribal gunmen affiliated with the "Al-Aslam" tribe. The incident stems from an ongoing feud between the Al-Mas'abain tribe's "Al-Hashla" and "Al-Ahwal" families and the Al-Aslam tribe, residing in the Ayn district east of Shabwa.

The sources revealed that the attackers were seeking retribution for the killing of Sheikh Tahir Shadal Al-Aslami and another individual from the Al-Aslam tribe. These individuals fell victim to gunmen from the Al-Ahwal and Al-Hashla families in March 2014, a tragic event that unfolded due to a long-standing dispute over agricultural lands in the Ayn district.

The sources confirmed that Abdulrab Hashla Al-Mas'abi himself had distanced himself from any vengeful acts and is regarded as one of the prominent leaders in the province. Tragically, the attack resulted in the deaths of Mohammad Ahmed Hashla Nasser, Tawfiq Abdul Rabeh Hashla Nasser, Osama Mohammad Saeed Najee, and Hussein Mohammad Mohsen Mahdi Al-Masri. Additionally, Ahmed Hashla Nasser Al-Ahwal sustained injuries during the ambush.

Earlier today, Abdulrab Hashla, the Secretary-General of the local council in Shabwa Province, fell victim to the ambush while traveling between the areas of "Dhalmin" and "Al-Jufai'a" on the main road connecting Bayhan and Ataq. After leaving his residence in the Ayn district, he was en route to Ataq, the provincial capital, to fulfill his official responsibilities.

The incident marks a tragic escalation in the long-standing tribal tensions in the region, underscoring the urgent need for reconciliation and efforts to establish lasting peace among the feuding factions. The local authorities and security forces are expected to launch an investigation into the ambush, with hopes of bringing the perpetrators to justice and preventing further violence from erupting in the area.
