Reports of military sources said on Monday, May 20, 2024, four soldiers belonging to the government-affiliated "Dar'a al Watan" forces lost their lives, while five others sustained injuries in a brutal assault carried out by Houthi militants. The attack took place in the Haifan directorate, located in the southern region of the Taiz province in southwest Yemen.
According to information received by "Barran Press" from reliable sources, members of the Houthi group launched a ferocious assault at dawn today on the positions held by the Dar'a al Watan forces in the western sector of the Haifan directorate. Tragically, this resulted in the deaths of four soldiers, with five others sustaining injuries.
The sources revealed that the Dar'a al Watan forces valiantly repelled the attack by the Houthi militia, an internationally recognized terrorist group, forcing them into a retreat. In the process, the government forces inflicted significant losses on the militants. However, the exact number of casualties among the Houthi ranks remains unknown at this time.
It is worth noting that the Dar'a al Watan forces in Haifan, Taiz, had recently announced on May 18, 2024, that they successfully seized a military vehicle and confiscated logistical support intended for the Houthis. The seized items included salaries, payroll sheets, and wireless communication devices.
Moreover, on April 27, 2024, battalions belonging to the Dar'a al Watan forces gained control of military positions previously held by other factions affiliated with the Southern Transitional Council. These positions were located in the Al-Mafalis, Haifan, and Al-Qabita fronts, situated between the Taiz and Lahj provinces. Subsequently, dozens of additional crews were deployed to these fronts.
The formation of the Dar'a al Watan forces was officially announced at the end of January 2023 through a decree issued by the President of the Presidential Leadership Council, Rashad Al-Alim. These forces operate under the command of Al-Alim himself, who serves as the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces. Bashir Al-Mudraki, known for his close ties to Saudi Arabia, was appointed as the commander of this government-affiliated force.
