Ali Mohsen Al-Ahmar, the former Vice President of the Republic and Lieutenant General, urged the Yemeni people to persist in their efforts to establish a federal state consisting of six regions, as he extended his congratulations on the occasion of Unity Day. In his address, delivered on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, Al-Ahmar emphasized the importance of adhering to the agreements reached during the national dialogue, which aimed at constructing a federal state and eradicating the remnants of both the priestly imamate and colonial rule.

Through his official account on the "X" platform, Al-Ahmar conveyed his felicitations to the Yemeni people on the 34th anniversary of the reunification of Yemen. He urged everyone to uphold unity without favoring any faction over another. According to "Barran Press," Al-Ahmar regarded Yemeni unity as the "revolution of revolutions," a monumental gift bestowed upon the present and future generations by the free people of Yemen. He described May 22, 1990, as the day when unity illuminated every corner of the nation, completing the radiance and splendor of the Yemeni revolution that began on September 26 and October 14.

Al-Ahmar further stated, "On this glorious day, in the sky of the beloved Aden, the economic and commercial capital, the flag of Yemen was hoisted, its national anthem resounded, and its enduring identity, steeped in a rich history, was affirmed."

He added, "Before this momentous occasion, Yemenis yearned for an official union to put an end to the era of fragmentation and division. Unity has always been and will continue to be the most generous gift bestowed by the free people of Yemen upon the present, the future, and generations to come."

Al-Ahmar emphasized that unity not only represents a pivotal event in Yemen's history but also entails religious, moral, and national responsibilities and commitments.

Tomorrow, on Wednesday, May 22, 2024, Yemenis will commemorate the 34th anniversary of the reunification of Yemen in 1990. The occasion will be marked by various preparations and activities in several Yemeni governorates, alongside international efforts to end the ongoing war and establish peace.

May 22, 1990, witnessed the consolidation of Yemeni unity, following the success of the "September 26, 1962 Revolution" against the Imamate system in the north and the "October 14, 1963 Revolution" against British colonialism in the south. Yemeni unity symbolized the culmination of the Yemeni people's struggle against oppression and colonization, fulfilling their aspirations for stability and a better life after years of division.

The Yemeni people's celebration of the 34th anniversary of the National Day of the Republic of Yemen (May 22, 1990) occurs amidst the world's worst humanitarian crisis, as declared by the United Nations. The country has been embroiled in a decade-long war, and calls for a retreat from national unity persist.

This commemoration also takes place amid heightened regional, international, and UN efforts to compel Yemeni parties to sign an agreement, ending the war and paving the way for a comprehensive and enduring peace across the nation.
