Aidarous al-Zubaidi, President of the Southern Transitional Council (STC) and a member of Yemen's Presidential Leadership Council, on Saturday called on the internationally recognized Yemeni government to take responsibility for the rapidly declining value of the local currency. He urged the government to implement sound monetary policies, rationalize spending, and develop alternative resources.

The STC, a key component of the Presidential Leadership Council, holds several government portfolios and has maintained military and administrative control over the temporary capital, Aden, since September 2019.

According to the official Yemeni news agency Saba, al-Zubaidi met with Prime Minister Ahmed bin Mubarak in Aden and urged him to ensure that all revenue-generating ministries, institutions, and agencies deposit their revenues into the Central Bank's accounts. This, he argued, would guarantee sufficient liquidity to stabilize exchange rates and enable the government to fulfill its obligations.

During the meeting, al-Zubaidi was briefed by the Prime Minister on his recent visit to the United Kingdom and his discussions with British officials regarding the ongoing escalation of Houthi threats in the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab.

The meeting also addressed the humanitarian situation in liberated provinces, the government's efforts to mitigate the economic decline and provide essential services, and the need to secure funds for fuel purchases to maintain electricity generation during the upcoming summer months. The government's strategic plans for addressing the electricity crisis through renewable energy projects were also discussed.
