On Sunday, May 26, 2024, Yemen's Minister of Health and Population, Dr. Qassem Buhaibeh, revealed to Barran Press the development of a model medical city in Marib Governorate, stating, "Establishing a medical city in Marib, as proposed by the Governor of Marib, is a wise decision."

Dr. Buhaibeh elaborated, "The medical city will be built by upgrading the Marib General Hospital to a medical city, which will include specialized centers, such as the new Prosthetics center, the ophthalmology center, and the kidney cleaning and surgery center."

The Minister also mentioned additional centers, including the heart and vascular center, the National Cancer Treatment Center, the burn and emergency center, and the new university hospital. He added, "With these centers and the expected significant addition of a university hospital and a medical college from the Saudi side, the medical city project in Marib would be brought closer to completion."

Dr. Buhaibeh also emphasized that the Ministry of Health is working with the local authorities in Marib Governorate to support and implement this strategic vision through the Ministry's central projects and the various health partners' help.

The Governor of Marib, Sultan al-Aradah, announced on Saturday, May 25, 2024, at the opening of the first medical conference in the governorate, the intention to build a medical city in Marib, which includes the Marib General Hospital, specialized centers, and a university hospital, associated with the College of Medicine at the South Abyan University.

The Governor, Sultan al-Aradah, explained that the construction of the medical college and the university hospital would be funded by the Saudi Development and Reconstruction Program in Yemen. He noted that the construction work on these projects will begin shortly.

The development of the medical city in Marib faces significant delays due to the systematic targeting of the governorate by the terrorist-listed Houthi group, which has directed resources away from the governorate's development.
