A commercial vessel has run aground off the coast of Hudaydah, Yemen, after being struck by three missiles, according to a report by the British maritime security firm, "ambrey," on Tuesday, May 28th, 2024.

Ambrey stated in a memo that the vessel, located approximately 54 nautical miles southwest of Hodeidah, had reported being hit by missiles and was taking on water. The ship issued a distress call, indicating damage to its cargo hold and a significant water ingress. The distress call confirmed the vessel was running aground.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, which comes amidst a series of attacks by the internationally designated terrorist group, the Houthis, against commercial ships in the Red Sea, the Arabian Sea, and the Gulf of Aden.

On Monday, the Houthis claimed responsibility for targeting commercial ships and American destroyers in the Indian Ocean and the Red Sea with missiles and drones. The group's military spokesman, Yahya Saree, stated that three ships, including one American and one Israeli, were targeted in the Indian Ocean, with a third ship targeted in the Red Sea. Saree also claimed successful attacks on two American warships in the Red Sea.

Since November 2023, the Houthis have been launching missile and drone attacks against commercial ships in the Red Sea, leading to increased maritime insurance costs and prompting many shipping companies to opt for the much longer route around the southern tip of Africa.

In response to the escalating attacks, the United States, Israel's key ally, formed a multinational coalition in December 2023 to protect maritime traffic from the attacks by the internationally designated terrorist group.
