Yemen's internationally recognized Prime Minister, Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak, issued a stark warning on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, against overlooking the need for fundamental solutions to the Yemeni crisis. He emphasized the importance of addressing the root causes of the conflict, which include completing the restoration of state authority, ending the Houthi insurgency, and engaging with the international community beyond purely humanitarian concerns.

Bin Mubarak delivered these remarks during a keynote session at the Arab Media Forum in Dubai, where he discussed the future of Yemen, delving into the complexities of the crisis, the prospects for peace, and debunking misconceptions surrounding the conflict. He outlined key factors for understanding the broader Yemeni landscape, according to the official Yemeni news agency Saba.

"Restoring security and stability to Yemen without addressing the fundamental problem will lead to recurring crises, hindering development and stability," he stated.

The Prime Minister identified one of the key issues prolonging the war as the "humanization" of the problem, leading to approaches that fail to address the core issue. He highlighted the importance of recognizing the root cause of the current challenges: the Houthi militia's coup against the legitimate government and their subsequent initiation of the war.

Bin Mubarak also pointed to the "catastrophic consequences" of Houthi terrorist attacks on oil facilities, which he stated have deprived the government of over 70% of its resources, hindering the provision of essential services to citizens and exacerbating humanitarian suffering.

He underscored previous warnings from the government that failing to end the insurgency and the Houthi group's ties to external agendas, which are designated as a terrorist organization by the international community, could lead to regional and global catastrophes.

The Prime Minister emphasized that the government's top priority is finding a genuine approach to address the crisis in Yemen, emphasizing the need for a strong and capable government to provide essential services to its people and defend their interests.

"Peace is the only strategic option for the legitimate government and Yemen," he asserted. "The region needs security and stability, an end to the suffering of the Yemeni people, and a cessation of the war. This requires international pressure and effort to push the Houthi militia towards peace."

He highlighted that the Houthi group's piracy in the Red Sea and threats to international navigation began two years before the Israeli aggression on Gaza, characterizing the current situation as an "escape from the responsibilities of peace."

Bin Mubarak acknowledged that many misconceptions within the Western community regarding the Yemeni crisis have led to misguided policies. He noted that there was a perception that the Houthi group did not pose a regional or international threat and would not target international interests. However, their actions have since proven this perception false.

The session was attended by prominent figures, including the Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Media Council, Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum; the Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, Jassem Al-Budaiwi; politicians; ministers; media leaders; editors-in-chief of newspapers and digital platforms; leading writers and thinkers; and influential figures in the media and related fields from the region and globally.

Bin Mubarak arrived in the UAE on Monday, May 27, 2024, to participate as a speaker at the Arab Media Forum, organized by the Dubai Press Club, according to the official Saba news agency.
