Ahmed Al-Abab, head of the Reconciliation and Peace Paths Organization, has accused the Houthi group, internationally designated as a terrorist organization, of deliberately opening only one treacherous road for residents of Jouba district in southern Marib province. This comes after the Houthis seized control of the district and imposed a complete siege, according to Al-Abab.
Speaking to Suhail TV, Al-Abab highlighted the dangers of the "Hura" passage, the only route permitted by the Houthis for Jouba residents to enter and exit. He stated that the route has caused over 12 civilian vehicle rollovers, resulting in the deaths of numerous civilians.
Al-Abab drew comparisons between the Hura passage and the Rafah crossing between Gaza and Egypt, stating that the former is far worse due to its treacherous terrain and the Houthis' deliberate choice of this route. He also condemned the group's ongoing abuses against civilians at the crossing.
He described the dire situation in Jouba, where necessities like electricity, healthcare, education, and security are absent. Residents face constant threats of violence, property seizures, and theft, Al-Abab said.
The Houthis have imposed a curfew from 6 PM to 6 AM, preventing residents from leaving their homes, regardless of their circumstances, effectively paralyzing life in the region.
Al-Abab accused the Houthis of forcibly displacing members of the Murad tribe from their homes, replacing them with individuals from other provinces, and transforming their areas into settlements, mirroring Israeli practices in Palestine.
He expressed confidence that the Murad tribe and other residents of southern Marib would resist the Houthis, eventually driving them out, just as they did in the districts of Kasara and Sarawah in northern and western Marib.
Al-Abab, who is also the Director of Public Relations at the Barran Media Foundation, predicted a strong uprising from within and outside the Murad districts once the spark of liberation ignites, exceeding the intensity of the Hureb tribes' uprising against the Houthis during the liberation of that district.
