Marib City came alive on Saturday, June 1, 2024, as it played host to an exhilarating sports marathon that saw the participation of more than 150 runners of all ages. The spirited event covered a challenging distance of 10 kilometers, showcasing the city's vibrant athletic community.
The marathon kicked off at the iconic Al-Shaddadi roundabout, situated on the Sahn Al-Watan line to the north of the city, and concluded at the Shaalan roundabout on Al-Arbaeen Street, located southwest of the city. The Youth Development Initiative spearheaded the organization of this event as part of their summer activities.
Distinguished figures in attendance included Muhammad Al-Mawadhi, the Undersecretary of Ma'rib Governorate, and Dr. Ali Al-Rimal, Chairman of the Summer Camps Committee in the Governorate. Both emphasized the significance of community-driven initiatives aimed at nurturing the youth, honing their skills, fostering knowledge acquisition, and creating conducive environments to showcase and refine their talents.
Furthermore, they reiterated the local authority's steadfast support for all programs and activities dedicated to the well-being of young individuals, enabling them to make the most of their summer break for personal growth and societal benefit.
Abdul Wahab Al-Sharabi, the head of the initiative, expounded on the marathon's objectives, highlighting the importance of fostering physical fitness among participants. He also emphasized the event's role in facilitating new connections, fostering friendships, and promoting the exchange of experiences. Additionally, the marathon aimed to instill a spirit of healthy competition, motivating participants to strive for excellence and unleash their creative potential.
Over the past five years, Ma'rib City has witnessed an unprecedented surge in sporting activities across diverse disciplines, including football championships, sports leagues, and a myriad of sports-related events. This thriving sports scene has invigorated the city, engaging residents and athletes alike in a dynamic atmosphere of athletic prowess and camaraderie.
