The Yemeni Ministry of Interior has announced the arrest of 13 suspects in connection with a bombing attempt on the director of intelligence for the Taiz military axis.
In a statement released on Sunday, June 2, 2024, the ministry confirmed that Taiz police apprehended the individuals involved in the "terrorist and sabotage" act, which targeted a team belonging to a prominent leader in the Taiz axis.
According to the ministry's website, the bombing occurred on Saturday, June 1, when Brigadier General Abdo Qasim Al-Buhairi, the intelligence chief, was targeted while traveling near the Al-Aqroud line leading to the village of Al-Arda Al-Matali. The suspects allegedly used an explosive device and a remote detonation, injuring four soldiers accompanying the general.
The ministry's statement noted that the Taiz police have referred the case, along with seized evidence and the suspects, to the relevant authorities for legal proceedings.
The bombing attempt on Brigadier General Al-Buhairi, who sustained minor injuries, caused serious injuries to four of his accompanying soldiers. The incident has raised concerns about the security situation in Taiz, a province that has been heavily affected by the ongoing conflict in Yemen.
