On Monday, June 3, 2024, Marib Governorate in northeastern Yemen witnessed the laying of the foundation stone for a residential village for internally displaced persons (IDPs) south of Al-Jufaynah camp, marking the third such project since the beginning of May. The funding for this initiative comes from Kuwait.
According to the official Yemeni news agency Saba, Abdulhakeem Al-Qaisi, the Director of the Social Affairs and Labor Office in the governorate, and Saif Muthanna, the Director of the Executive Unit for IDP Camp Management, participated in the ceremony. They laid the foundation stone to commence the construction of the residential village for IDPs, named "Dawhat Al-Khair," located south of Al-Jufaynah IDP camp.
The village will cover an area of 7,250 square meters and will include 55 sustainable housing units. Additionally, it will feature a school, a healthcare facility, a mosque, a park, and a water project. The village will provide suitable housing for 55 displaced families, along with educational, healthcare, and water services, as reported by the agency.
On May 28, Marib Governorate witnessed the laying of the foundation stone for the project "Al-Subaih Residential City for Widows and Orphans," funded by the Kuwaiti humanitarian organization, INSAN. The project is being implemented by the Kafil Humanitarian and Development Foundation. It consists of 28 residential units, each comprising two rooms, a kitchen, and a bathroom, covering an area of 45 square meters. The total area of the city is 6,000 square meters, with a cost of one million Saudi riyals.
Earlier, on May 4, the local authority in Marib announced the implementation of the "Al-Babatin Residential City for Widows and Orphans" project. It includes the construction of 28 housing units, accompanied by a school, a mosque, and water and sanitation services. This project is also funded by the Kuwaiti organization INSAN.
The establishment of these residential cities in Marib aims to address the pressing needs of IDPs, providing them with improved living conditions and essential services.
