Marib, Yemen - A fire erupted in a shelter housing a displaced family in Marib, Yemen, on Monday evening, leaving a woman and four children with severe burns, according to the Executive Unit for the Management of IDP Camps in Marib.
The incident occurred in the "Batha'a al-Meal" camp, located north of the city. The Executive Unit, in a statement posted on Facebook, seen by "Barran Press), described the condition of the victims as critical and called for immediate intervention from local, regional, and international partners to provide aid and medical care.
The fire is believed to have been caused by an electrical short circuit, a common occurrence in displacement camps during the summer months when temperatures soar.
Marib, a stronghold for the Yemeni government, currently shelters over 2.27 million displaced people who have fled the Houthi-controlled areas. These individuals are spread across 197 camps and settlements, according to reports from the Executive Unit.
The tragedy highlights the precarious living conditions faced by displaced families in Yemen, where the ongoing conflict has resulted in a humanitarian crisis.
