President of the Presidential Leadership Council, Rashad Muhammad al-Alimi, on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, presented a set of "five priorities" to the National Forces Alliance. He stated these priorities are designed to "protect the existing consensus within the Presidential Council and the government of political competencies."
Al-Alimi delivered these remarks during a general meeting of the Consultation and Reconciliation Authority held in Aden, the temporary capital of Yemen, according to the official Yemeni news agency Saba.
The top priority outlined by al-Alimi is to mobilize all resources for the battle to reclaim state institutions, dismantle the Houthi coup, confront the destructive Iranian project, and solidify Yemen's affiliation with its Arab homeland.
Other priorities include strengthening partnerships with countries supporting the legitimacy of the Yemeni government, making these partnerships the foundation for Yemen's and the region's security and stability. Additionally, the priorities emphasize unifying media messaging, responding promptly to emerging developments and sudden changes, and combating disinformation and rumors that could threaten internal unity and the national front.
Al-Alimi emphasized the need to "present updated reference documents that diagnose the work environment, its variables, and potential trajectories, and answer the questions and demands of the coming days."
He reiterated the Council's support for the Consultation and Reconciliation Authority's efforts to unite and bring together national forces around the goal of restoring state institutions and dismantling the Houthi militia's coup, which is a proxy for the Iranian regime.
Al-Alimi commended the Consultation and Reconciliation Authority's recent contributions to the Presidential Leadership Council, expressing hope that this effort would transform into a collective and integrated endeavor to achieve the strategic objective of uniting active national forces under a single presidential coalition.
In his speech, he addressed the accomplishments of the Presidential Leadership Council, highlighting "some important gains related to the Council's tasks outlined in the declaration of power transfer, most notably the Council's cohesion and the continuation of national consensus, which is the greatest achievement."
He acknowledged that "progress has been slow in some areas," but emphasized that "stopping the bloodshed between partners with a shared objective is a priceless achievement." He pointed to improvements in security conditions in the temporary capital Aden and liberated governorates, the state's continued fulfillment of its essential obligations, including regular salary payments for public employees and securing the necessary supplies, despite the severe financial crisis.
Al-Alimi affirmed the Council's commitment to moving forward with procedures to unify and integrate the armed forces and security apparatus, per the recommendations of the joint security and military committee. He also confirmed the Council's continued support for the government's efforts and reforms implemented at all levels, including the Central Bank's decisions to protect the banking sector and combat money laundering.
Al-Alimi highlighted that activating the role of the Consultation and Reconciliation Authority in leading reconciliation efforts and bridging differences between various parties and components is one of the most notable successes of the Presidential Leadership Council.
The Consultation and Reconciliation Authority was established under the declaration of power transfer from former President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi to the eight-member Presidential Leadership Council in April 2022. It comprises 50 members, with the potential to increase to 100.
Its stated mission is to unite various components to support and assist the Presidential Leadership Council, unify Yemeni forces, create conditions conducive to ending fighting and conflict between all forces, and reach a peace agreement.
