The General People's Congress branch in Marib province (northeastern Yemen) welcomed on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, what it called "the first step in the initiative to open the province's roads to other governorates," launched by Major General Sultan Al-Arada, a member of the Presidential Leadership Council and governor of Marib.

In a statement issued following a meeting and received by "Barran Press," the General People's Congress leadership in Marib praised the community efforts that pressured the Houthi group, designated as a terrorist organization by the international community, to comply with the initiative and open the "Al-Bayda-Marib" road to alleviate the suffering of citizens.

The General People's Congress branch in Marib reaffirmed its principled stance of working to maintain national unity, particularly in the province, standing alongside the army and resistance, and supporting security forces in strengthening security, stability, and the rule of law.

The branch stressed the need to ensure genuine partnership for all forces in the province in managing public affairs and activating the role of local councils in accordance with the Local Authority Law and the powers granted to local councils and executive offices.

On June 9th, Major General Sultan Al-Arada, the governor of Marib and a member of the Presidential Leadership Council, announced the reopening of the (Marib - Al-Bayda - Sana'a) road after completing the necessary arrangements.

The reopening of the Al-Bayda road followed a community initiative that responded to a call made by Major General Al-Arada on February 22nd during the inauguration of the (Marib - Nehm - Sana'a) road, which the Houthi group continues to refuse to open.

The Marib-Al-Bayda road was closed in 2021 following clashes between the Yemeni army and Houthi fighters in the southern districts of Marib province. The desert road between Marib, Al-Jawf, Nehm, and Sana'a was used as an alternative to the Al-Bayda route.
