A cholera outbreak in a village in Lahj Governorate, southern Yemen, has claimed the lives of two young men and sickened over 40 residents, according to medical sources.

Widad Mohammed, the epidemiological surveillance coordinator at the Lahj Public Health Office, told "Barran Press" that the two young men died in the village of Zwan, located in the Zarika district of the Al-Maqatra directorate. The outbreak, characterized by severe watery diarrhea, affected approximately 45 individuals.

Mohammed confirmed that the health office responded immediately upon receiving reports of the illness. Thirty-five cases were transported to Khalifa General Hospital in the city of Al-Tubah, Taiz Governorate. Some patients remain under isolation in the hospital, including four members of the same family.

A rapid response team, led by the director of the health office, Dr. Adnan Mahrez, was dispatched to the affected village. The team identified the source of the outbreak as a contaminated well serving as the village's primary source of drinking water. All individuals who consumed water from this well contracted the illness, while neighboring villages with alternative water sources remained unaffected.

The response team established a temporary medical center equipped with intravenous fluids and other necessary supplies. The center is actively treating affected individuals.
