Houthi militants, designated as a terrorist group by the international community, have launched artillery attacks targeting civilian homes in the "Hajar" area of northern Al-Dhale'e province, southern Yemen, according to military sources on Monday, June 24, 2024.
The Ministry of Defense's official website, "September Net," reported that the Houthis used various weapons, including 23 artillery shells and BMP projectiles, to bombard several villages and areas in northern and northwestern Al-Dhale'e province, claiming they were "populated."
The website identified the villages in the Hajar area as "Al-Mashari'a, Qurood, Sulaym, and Muris." The shelling reportedly caused material damage to homes and property, as well as terrorizing children and women.
In May and June, Al-Dhale'e province witnessed two previous Houthi mortar attacks on populated villages in the Qataba district, north of the province. The first attack resulted in the death of an infant and the injury of his father when their home in "Sulaym" village was targeted. A similar attack on homes in "Markhaza" village in the Faakhir area of the same district followed.
These attacks highlight the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Yemen, where civilians continue to bear the brunt of the conflict. The Houthi group's targeting of civilian areas is a blatant violation of international law and a testament to their disregard for human life.
