Egypt Reaffirms Strong Support for Yemen's Unity and Territorial Integrity

Egypt has reiterated its strong support for Yemen's unity, independence, and territorial integrity, emphasizing the country's crucial role in Egyptian national security and the stability of the Arab region and the Red Sea.

This reaffirmation came in a statement from the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs during the Egyptian-Yemeni Strategic Dialogue, which commenced on Tuesday, June 25, 2024. The dialogue was chaired by Egyptian Assistant Foreign Minister Dr. Mohamed El-Badri and Yemeni Ambassador to Egypt Khaled Bahah, according to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA).

The statement highlighted that the meeting discussed bilateral relations, paving the way for their presentation to the foreign ministers of both countries. The meeting also addressed the Palestinian issue, with both sides stressing the need for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, ending military operations in Rafah, and facilitating humanitarian aid.

The two sides also discussed developments in Sudan and Libya, affirming their alignment on these issues.

On Tuesday, June 25, the internationally recognized Yemeni government announced the resumption of strategic dialogue with Egypt, marking the end of a 14-year hiatus due to the ongoing conflict in Yemen.

On Monday, June 24, Yemeni Foreign Minister and Minister of Expatriates Affairs, Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak, arrived in Cairo for an official visit.

Yemen's official news agency Saba reported that bin Mubarak and Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry will co-chair the current session of the strategic dialogue between Yemen and Egypt.
