French Ambassador to Yemen Pledges Support for Rehabilitating Five Yemeni Museums

Yemeni Ambassador to UNESCO, Mohammed Jumaih, met with French Ambassador to Yemen, Catherine Kammoun, to discuss France's role in supporting UNESCO's work and the French Cultural Center in rehabilitating Yemeni museums.

Jamil, in a Facebook post, seen by Braan Press, highlighted the discussion on issues related to artifact smuggling and mechanisms to combat it, along with educational matters. The meeting also touched upon activating French support for UNESCO's operations in Yemen, as well as the role of the French Cultural Center in rehabilitating Yemeni museums.

Jamil emphasized the focus on rehabilitating five Yemeni museums with support from the "Alph" Foundation for the Protection of Antiquities, under the supervision of the French Cultural Center, which has begun operating from Kuwait.

He explained that the project to rehabilitate five museums comes within the context of the Alph Foundation and the French Cultural Center's interest in protecting Yemen's cultural heritage and their commitment to activating the role of museums in this regard.

Ambassador Jamil noted that the meeting addressed the issue of artifact smuggling and ways of cooperation to combat it, including exploring the possibility of signing a bilateral agreement to combat artifact smuggling.
