Houthi Commander Killed in Taiz as Group Escalates Attacks

A senior Houthi commander, Abdulsalam Saeed, who led the group's forces in the Asifra front, was killed along with several of his fighters in clashes with government forces near the city of Taiz, military sources reported on Friday, June 28th.

The sources stated that Houthi militants launched a fierce attack on government positions in the Asifra front, north of Taiz city. The attack was repelled, resulting in the death of Saeed and several of his fighters, while others were injured.

Earlier Thursday, the media center of the Taiz axis said, in a statement seen by Barran Press, that the various fronts of the governorate witnessed, last week, a new escalation by militants of the Houthi group classified as terrorists, coinciding with the opening of the Qasr and Camp tour route, Basin al-Ashraf.

According to the center, the escalation was concentrated around the city, with Houthi militants carrying out offensive operations, artillery shelling, and infiltration attempts, which were met with resistance by the national army forces.

The center highlighted intense clashes on Thursday between the national army and Houthi militants in the Kريفات front, east of Taiz city, following Houthi artillery shelling targeting army positions.

The army forces, according to the center, also thwarted a Houthi infiltration attempt in the Asifra front north of the city, leading to armed clashes that resulted in the death of two Houthi fighters and the injury of four others.

The Taiz Axis Media Center indicated that the national army forces have successfully thwarted four Houthi infiltration attempts this week in the Asifra and Kalaba fronts, north and northeast of the city, and the Ahtoob front in the Jabal Habshi district in the western countryside of the governorate.

Last Wednesday, National Army forces responded to artillery shelling that targeted residential areas in the Al-Sayyahi and Al-Dhabab areas and National Army positions at the old airport and the Al-Sayahi Front, west of Taiz.

Two days ago, National Army forces on the Wadi Salah and Al-Karifat fronts, east of the city, responded to sources of Houthi fire, targeting National Army positions with R-mortar shells. PG and other medium and light weapons.
