A man and his wife were killed on Friday evening, June 28th, 2024, by a landmine left behind by the Houthi group, designated as a terrorist organization by the international community, in the al-Durihimi district of Hodeidah governorate (western Yemen), according to the Hodeidah Human Rights Office.

The office stated in a press release, seen by "Barran Press," that Shukri Hiba Badi and his wife, Aisha Badi, were killed when a Houthi landmine exploded in the al-Za'faran area of al-Durihimi district.

The statement indicated that the landmine detonated under a motorcycle the couple was riding as they were returning home.

United Nations reports estimate that the Houthi group has planted approximately two million landmines in various areas under its control, resulting in the deaths and injuries of over 20,000 civilians, primarily women and children. rights reports accuse the Houthi group of transforming Yemen into "the largest minefield ever" by planting over two million landmines.

Human rights organizations have repeatedly urged the Houthi group to provide maps of the landmines they have planted to organizations working in demining.
