Taiz University announced on Monday, July 1, 2024, that a family from Taiz Governorate (southwest Yemen) has donated a plot of land measuring 2,000 "square casbahs" approximately 40.000 square meters for the construction of two university campuses in the coastal city of Al-Mocha, west of the governorate.
In a statement published on its official website, seen by Barran Press, Taiz University stated that the university's president, Dr. Mohammed al-Sha'abi, signed a "waqf agreement" with Sheikh Mamoun Abdul Hamid Marsh, granting the university a piece of land estimated at 2,000 square casbahs in the Yakhtel Azla al-Zahari area of Al-Mocha District.
The statement indicated that the "waqf" will be used for the benefit of the university and its diverse faculties, as well as for the establishment of the faculties of Marine Sciences and Agriculture and Animal Wealth in the city.
Al-Sha'abi said that the establishment of new faculties in Al-Mocha "will alleviate the suffering of students in the coastal districts from travel, as well as enable them to maintain their educational future and stabilize the educational system in the coastal districts."
He praised the generous "waqf" initiative, describing it as "a support for education as the core of human civilization and the optimal path to fulfilling aspirations." He pointed out that this "will have a positive impact on enhancing the status of university education and empowering less fortunate groups to join universities."
