Tribal and military sources confirmed on Monday, July 1, 2024, that forces from the Southern Giants Brigades repelled a large-scale attack launched "suddenly" by the Houthi group, a designated terrorist organization by the international community, on the "Al-Jafra" area in the Al-Abdiyah district, south of Marib Governorate.

Sources told "Barran Press" that Houthi militants stormed the "Al-Ghanim" areas in the "Al-Jafra" area of Al-Abdiyah district, overcoming the light resistance of local residents, raided and searched homes, and seized control of the area.

They added that the Houthis also attacked positions where Giant forces were stationed, taking control of the entire "Al-Jafra" area before Giant forces regained some of the positions in a counter-offensive.

According to sources, artillery, light and medium weapons were used in the battles, while sporadic artillery skirmishes are currently taking place.

While the Houthi group has not commented on the attack, the Giant forces announced that they had repelled an attack launched by the Houthi group earlier in the day.

The Giant forces' media center, in a statement published on its "X" platform account, seen by "Bran Press," stated that Giant forces engaged in "fierce clashes" to repel "the Houthi attempt to attack "Mount Arrash" in the Al-Jafra area of Al-Abdiyah district, south of Marib Governorate."

The statement explained that the Houthis used "artillery shells, drones, and medium weapons" in the attack, but the Giant forces "dealt decisively with the Houthi attack."

According to the statement, "the Southern Giant forces forced the Houthi militants to retreat, after dozens of their ranks were killed and injured, and their attempt to advance failed miserably."

This attack is the largest and most violent launched by the Houthi group since late 2021, and it comes in conjunction with active regional and international efforts to push for peace in the country.
