The Director General of the Planning and International Cooperation Office in Marib Governorate, Engineer Saleh Al-Saqqaf, met with the head of the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), Saeed Musa Abitidon, on Thursday, July 4th, 2024. The meeting focused on the urgent humanitarian needs of internally displaced persons (IDPs) and the host community in the governorate.

Al-Saqqaf highlighted the dire humanitarian situation faced by IDPs, emphasizing the need for humanitarian assistance and development projects to address the needs of the vast population. He expressed concern over the lack of adequate interventions and funding from donor agencies.

The official underscored the local authority's commitment to collaborating with international organizations to alleviate the suffering of IDPs and improve overall conditions. He commended the UN's efforts in supporting official initiatives to ease the humanitarian crisis.

Abitidon reassured Al-Saqqaf of OCHA's readiness to intensify efforts and fully coordinate with the Planning and International Cooperation Office in Marib. He expressed gratitude for the local authority's ongoing cooperation with UN agencies and international organizations, including facilitating humanitarian operations.

The meeting underscores the critical need for continued humanitarian assistance and development efforts in Marib, which has become a major hub for IDPs fleeing conflict in other parts of Yemen.
