Security authorities in Marib Governorate (northeastern Yemen) announced on Saturday, July 6, 2024, the seizure of a large shipment of hashish destined for areas controlled by the Houthi group, internationally designated as a terrorist organization.

Marib police reported that the confiscated shipment weighed 190 kg of hashish, stating it was apprehended at a security checkpoint at one of the governorate's entrances, according to Yemen's official news agency Saba.

The shipment was found concealed within a DINA truck (Isuzu model) en route to Houthi-controlled territories. Authorities confirmed that the drugs were seized and, along with the suspects, handed over to the relevant authorities for legal proceedings.

Saba quoted Brigadier Yahya Al-Akaw, Assistant Director General of Marib Police, as commending the efforts of officers and personnel at all security checkpoints stationed at the governorate's entrances and exits for their significant and tangible security achievements.

Al-Akaw highlighted the crucial role of these checkpoints in thwarting ongoing smuggling operations by the Houthis and protecting Yemeni society from the deadly toxins of the group.

In a similar vein, Brigadier Abdullah Al-Sabry, Commander of the Special Security Forces in the governorate, asserted the readiness of officers and personnel at all security checkpoints to foil any Houthi attempts to smuggle hashish or other prohibited substances.

He emphasized the "high capabilities" of security personnel deployed at checkpoints to "uncover and apprehend complex smuggling operations, regardless of the methods and techniques employed by the militia for deception and concealment."
