A consultative meeting for Taiz youth was held on Sunday, July 7th, 2024, focusing on the current situation and confronting threats to the republic.

The meeting according to Barran Press reporter, organized under the auspices of Presidential Leadership Council Chairman Rashad Al-Alimi, was themed "Current Challenges in Taiz and the Role of Youth in the Battle to Restore the State and End the Coup."

A statement from the meeting emphasized the unsustainable nature of the current situation and highlighted the opportunity to regain control, coordinate efforts, and allow Yemenis to determine their political and national choices, ultimately restoring their state and republic.

The statement condemned any leniency or concessions towards the Houthi group, internationally recognized as a terrorist organization, and any disregard for the rights of the Yemeni people as a national crime unacceptable under any pretext.

The meeting stressed the need to revive the republican culture and connect it with reality to counter Houthi threats and support the Presidential Leadership Council, the internationally recognized government, the local authority, the army, and security forces.

Working papers presented during the meeting focused on the role of youth in confronting threats to the republican system, the importance of completing the battle to restore the state, and the need to support the Presidential Leadership Council, the government, local authorities, the army, and security forces.

The organizers acknowledged that the meeting date coincided, unintentionally, with the anniversary of the 1994 Summer War, which took place on July 7th.

They offered an implicit apology to residents of southern governorates, recognizing the painful significance of the date and emphasizing the importance of reflecting on past mistakes, acknowledging them, addressing their consequences, and ensuring their non-repetition.

Background

Yemen witnessed a civil war four years after the reunification of Yemen in 1990. The war, which lasted for months, ended on July 7th, 1994, with the declaration of victory for the regime of former President Ali Abdullah Saleh over the Southern Yemeni Socialist Party, led by his deputy, Ali Salem al-Beidh, the other party to the unification agreement.
