The Yemeni Ministry of Interior, under the internationally recognized government, reported on Monday, July 8th, 2024, the discovery of the body of an Ethiopian migrant off the coast of Shabwah province in southern Yemen. This grim finding coincides with the arrival of 109 African migrants on the province's shores.

According to the Security Media Center, the Shabwah Coast Guard recovered the body of the Ethiopian migrant from the sea, approximately 3 kilometers off the coast of Bir Ali port.

The Coast Guard stated that they received a report from fishermen about the body floating in the water and immediately dispatched a team to retrieve it.

Initial examination revealed no signs of injury on the deceased. The body was placed in the hospital's morgue, and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) was notified to conduct further examination and arrange for burial.

Meanwhile, 109 Ethiopian migrants arrived in Shabwah on a boat, landing at the Majami'a area on the coast of Arqah in the Radhum district. The Coast Guard did not disclose the actions taken following the arrival of the migrants.

This tragic incident underscores the perilous journey undertaken by migrants seeking a better life, highlighting the risks and human costs associated with irregular migration routes. The discovery of the deceased migrant and the arrival of a large group of migrants in Shabwah underscore the ongoing challenges faced by Yemen in managing migration flows.
