Three soldiers from the Southern Transitional Council (STC) forces were killed and others injured in a roadside bomb explosion in Shabwah governorate (eastern Yemen) on Thursday, July 11, 2024.

Aden Independent Channel, affiliated with the STC, reported that "terrorist elements" (unidentified) infiltrated the Sha'b Madhab area in Shabwah and launched an attack using RPGs and mortars targeting a position occupied by units from the 1st Shabwah Defense Brigade.

Local sources cited by the channel stated that a roadside bomb detonated as a military vehicle belonging to the brigade was en route for reinforcement, resulting in the deaths of three soldiers and injuries to others.

The channel claimed that the "terrorist elements" used mortars, RPGs, and medium and light machine guns in the attack before fleeing under the pressure of retaliatory fire from STC forces, which allegedly resulted in casualties among the attackers.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.

Al-Qaeda elements are active in several Yemeni governorates, particularly in the south, and have carried out attacks against government forces and STC troops.
