Yemen Airways resumed direct flights between Aden, the temporary capital of Yemen, and Dubai, United Arab Emirates, on Monday, July 15, 2024, after a nine-year suspension.
"Yemen Airways resumed its first direct flights between Aden, the temporary capital of Yemen, and Dubai, UAE, today (Monday) after a nine-year hiatus due to the war in the country," said Basam Nasser, Director General of Legal Affairs at the state-owned airline, in a statement to Turkey's Anadolu Agency.
"The first flights between Yemen and the UAE were launched as part of a program to restart flights between Aden and Dubai, with two flights per week," he added.
In June, Nasser Mohammed, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Yemen Airways, revealed that the company was preparing to launch flights to Doha and Dubai soon and open routes across Africa.
Most Yemeni air transport routes ceased operations following the Houthi group's takeover of the capital Sana'a in September 2014. The group, internationally designated as a terrorist organization, seized control of the city, prompting the suspension of air travel. However, some flights have recently resumed, particularly to Kuwait in mid-June, according to the official Yemeni news agency "Saba."
