The United States and Saudi Arabia signed a framework agreement on Tuesday, July 16, 2024, paving the way for new collaborations in the field of civilian space exploration and research.

The agreement was signed by NASA Administrator Bill Nelson for the US and by Mohammed bin Saud Al-Tamimi, CEO of the Saudi Space Agency, for Saudi Arabia.

According to a NASA statement, the agreement, signed for "peaceful purposes," establishes a legal framework for both countries to collaborate on endeavors utilizing airspace and outer space.

Officially titled "Framework Agreement Between the Government of the United States of America and the Government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Concerning Cooperation in the Fields of Aviation and the Exploration and Use of Airspace and Outer Space for Peaceful Purposes," the agreement acknowledges the importance of the Artemis Accords, signed by the US in October 2020 and Saudi Arabia in July 2022. These accords reflect both countries' commitment to transparent, safe, and responsible space exploration.
