A prominent Yemeni poet, Amer Omar Ali bin Amro Bellobaid, died of thirst in the desert between Shabwa and Hadhramaut governorates in eastern Yemen on Wednesday, July 17, 2024.

Local sources confirmed to "Barran Press"  that Bellobaid's body was discovered by residents in the sand dunes between the areas of "Astar" and "Al-Oqla" in northern Shabwa.

According to sources, Bellobaid had been traveling from Hadhramaut to his home in Arma district in northern Shabwa when he became lost in the desert. He reportedly suffered from poor eyesight and became disoriented during the night.

Residents found Bellobaid's body after tracing his tracks, approximately 7 kilometers from the main road in the Al-Aqla area.

Bellobaid was a well-known poet from Shabwa governorate and had participated in the prestigious "Poet of the Million" television program in the United Arab Emirates in 2008. He was known for his poetry and his participation in numerous poetic debates.

The desert regions between Shabwa, Marib, and Al-Jawf have witnessed numerous deaths of citizens traveling on unpaved, secondary roads due to the lack of essential services, including permanent and mobile patrols. This incident highlights the dangers posed by these remote and unforgiving terrains.
