The Yemeni Journalists' Union on Friday, July 19, 2024, held the Security Belt forces, affiliated with the Southern Transitional Council (STC) in Aden, the temporary capital of Yemen, responsible for the safety of journalist Fahmi Al-Alimi, demanding his immediate release.

In a statement condemning the arrest, seen by Barran Press, the Journalists' Union denounced the detention of Al-Alimi by STC forces in one of Aden's neighborhoods. The statement indicated that the union had received a report about his arrest by the Security Belt forces on Thursday, July 18, when he left his home.

The union condemned the "arbitrary" action and demanded that the security authorities in Aden immediately release Al-Alimi, punish those involved in the arrest, and cease harassing journalists and imposing restrictions on those working in the press and media sector. rights reports accuse the authorities in Aden, under the control of the STC, of "restricting journalists and media professionals, as part of the council's efforts to tighten its grip on the media."
