Saudi Arabia on Wednesday, July 24, welcomed the announcement by the Office of the United Nations Special Envoy for Yemen, Hans Grundberg, regarding an agreement between the internationally recognized Yemeni government and the Houthis on de-escalation measures concerning the banking sector and Yemenia Airlines.
The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in a statement published by the official Saudi Press Agency (SPA), expressed its support for efforts to achieve peace and security in Yemen. The statement emphasized the Kingdom's continued solidarity with Yemen, its government, and its people, and its unwavering commitment to encouraging de-escalation efforts and maintaining calm.
The statement expressed hope that the agreement would facilitate the participation of Yemeni parties in dialogue under the auspices of the UN Special Envoy's Office to discuss all economic and humanitarian issues, contributing to a comprehensive political solution to the Yemeni crisis within the framework of the roadmap to support the peace process in Yemen.
On Tuesday, July 23, the Office of the UN Special Envoy for Yemen, Hans Grundberg, announced that the internationally recognized Yemeni government and the Houthi group, designated as a terrorist organization by several countries, had agreed on several de-escalation measures related to the banking sector and Yemenia Airlines.
Grundberg's office stated that it had received written texts from both parties, including an agreement to "cancel recent decisions and actions against banks from both sides and to refrain from any similar decisions or actions in the future."
The agreement also included the resumption of Yemenia Airlines flights between Sana'a and Jordan, with an increase in the number of flights to three per day, and the introduction of daily flights to Cairo and India, or as needed.
According to the statement, the agreement also stipulated that meetings would be held to address the administrative, technical, and financial challenges facing the company, and that meetings would begin to discuss all economic and humanitarian issues based on the roadmap. The statement also noted that both parties requested UN support in implementing the agreed-upon measures.
