A lightning strike in the southern Yemeni governorate of Al-Dhale'e has left a man blind and killed a flock of sheep, local sources reported on Wednesday, July 24, 2024.

The sources told "Barran Press" that the lightning struck the man while he was tending his sheep in the Damet district. The strike also killed several sheep in the "Sahour" valley in Damet during a heavy rainfall.

This incident comes just days after a lightning strike killed a five-year-old boy, "Mohammed Aadi Mohammed Abdullah," and injured his seven-year-old brother while they were near their home in the "Al-Shagadra" village in the "Hajar" district of Al-Dhale'e.

In late June, a lightning strike killed 52 sheep in the Al-Salo district of Taiz governorate.

Over the past month, "Barran Press" has recorded 28 deaths, including women and children, and 10 injuries due to lightning strikes in various governorates. This brings the total number of lightning strike victims to 29 fatalities and 12 injuries.

The recent surge in lightning strikes highlights the vulnerability of Yemenis to extreme weather events, particularly during the monsoon season. The country's ongoing conflict has exacerbated the situation, leaving many communities without access to basic services and infrastructure, making them more susceptible to natural disasters.
