The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) reported on Sunday, July 28, 2024, that 800 families have been affected by heavy rains in Amran governorate, located in northern Yemen under the control of the Houthi group, designated as a terrorist organization by several countries.

In a statement posted on X, seen by "Barran Press", the UNHCR stated that "heavy rains hit the Al-Qafla area in Amran governorate, causing significant damage."

The agency noted that "300 families were affected by the rains in displacement sites, and 500 families outside of them."

The UNHCR indicated that it is "coordinating with the Camp Coordination and Camp Management (CCCM) cluster and local partners to respond to the immediate needs of these families, including food, non-food items, hygiene supplies, clean water, and temporary relocation."

In recent days, flash floods have hit several governorates in northern Yemen, including Amran and Sa'ada, causing significant damage.

Yemen suffers from severe infrastructure weakness, making the impact of the floods even more devastating for a population already struggling with fragile essential services due to the ongoing war, which has lasted for nearly nine years.
