A man was killed and his son injured in a shooting incident on Tuesday evening, July 30th, 2024, in the Lawdar district of Abyan province, which is under the control of the Southern Transitional Council (STC).

Local sources told "Barran Press" that the victim, identified as Salem Abdullah Mohammed, was shot and killed by an armed individual in the village of Asoud Ahl Faj'am in the Ahwar sub-district. His son, who was also injured in the attack, was taken to the district hospital.

Sources indicated that the perpetrator was from the same area but remains at large. The incident sparked a tense standoff between the families, with both sides mobilizing for a potential clash. However, a tribal mediation effort successfully calmed the situation and is currently negotiating to contain the conflict and focus on holding the perpetrator accountable.

Lawdar district, located in northern Abyan, has experienced a significant decline in security and recurring clashes. This latest incident comes amid a joint security operation led by the STC-affiliated Security Belt forces, which have been accused by Lawdar residents of conducting arbitrary arrests and raids under the pretext of pursuing al-Qaeda militants, who are also active in the district.
