Marib Public Prosecution Executes Death Sentence by Firing Squad for Murder Conviction

The Public Prosecution in Marib Governorate (northeastern Yemen) announced on Thursday, August 1st, 2024, the execution of a death sentence by firing squad for a convicted murderer.

In a statement released to "Barran Press," the prosecution stated that the execution of the legal retribution was carried out at the central prison for the convicted individual, Ali Ahmed Hussein al-Sawady, for the premeditated and malicious murder of the victim, Abdulkarim Saleh Mohammed al-Ansi.

The statement added that the execution was carried out by firing squad until death after attempts to persuade and incentivize the victim's family to pardon and forgive the convicted individual. Following their refusal, the verdict and the confirmation document were read aloud.

According to the prosecution, the execution was overseen by the Deputy Prosecutor of the Marib Primary Court, Judge Abdul Aziz Awaijan, and was attended by a large crowd of citizens.

The prosecution emphasized that the execution was carried out in accordance with the verdict issued by the Marib Primary Court in case number J J 240 of 2019. It was also in compliance with the rulings of the Primary Court, the Court of Appeal, and the Supreme Court, as well as the report and approval of the Public Prosecutor and the President of the Presidential Leadership Council.
