On Thursday, August 1st, 2024, political parties in the Yemeni province of Marib condemned the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh, the head of Hamas' political bureau, in the Iranian capital Tehran.

The condemnation came in a statement released by the parties, seen by "Barran Press",  following a meeting in the city of Marib, where they discussed local and regional developments.

The "Marib Parties" renewed their call for a gathering on Friday after the midday prayer in the city of Marib to denounce the assassination of the Hamas leader and express the Yemeni people's solidarity with their Palestinian brethren, who are facing "genocide" at the hands of the Israeli entity.

Early Wednesday, Hamas announced Haniyeh's assassination following a "treacherous Zionist raid" on his residence in Tehran, shortly after his participation in the inauguration ceremony of the new Iranian president on Tuesday.

Iranian state television confirmed Haniyeh's death in Tehran, stating that "an investigation into the assassination is underway and the results will be announced soon."

Subsequently, Hamas announced that official and public funeral ceremonies would be held for Haniyeh in Tehran on Thursday before his body is transported to Doha for a funeral prayer and burial on Friday.

The assassination of Haniyeh in the Iranian capital Tehran has been met with widespread condemnation from Arab and international countries, amidst warnings of escalation in the Middle East.

Haniyeh's assassination comes at a time when Israel, with American support, has been waging a war on the Gaza Strip since October 7th, resulting in over 130,000 Palestinian casualties, mostly children and women, and over 10,000 missing.
