On Friday, August 2nd, 2024, a massive protest took place in Marib Governorate, Yemen, denouncing the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh, leader of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), and the ongoing genocide perpetrated by Israeli occupation forces against the Palestinian people.

According to Barran Press correspondent, protesters chanted slogans condemning the continuous Israeli massacres against Palestinians in Gaza, the assassination of Haniyeh, and the world's silence in the face of the ongoing Israeli aggression.

In a statement issued by the rally, obtained by Barran Press, protesters called upon the international community, represented by the Security Council and the United Nations, to "enforce international law and punish the Israeli occupation for its repeated violations of everything Palestinian, land and people."

The statement reiterated the protesters' call for the International Criminal Court to take immediate action to implement the rulings against war criminals and perpetrators of genocide. It emphasized that regional and global peace requires serious action and firm stances against the disregard for human lives, which will not happen if the international community continues its lenient approach to the occupation's crimes.

The protesters demanded a transparent investigation into the "heinous assassination," with the participation of Palestinian resistance groups to prevent the truth from being buried under manipulated narratives that ultimately lead to the case being closed as "unsolved," as in similar incidents.

The statement called on all Palestinian factions and resistance groups to unite and stand firm against Israeli arrogance and the colonial apparatus of repression that has been broken against the rock of Palestinian resistance since its inception.

It also urged all nations to escalate protests, solidarity rallies, and all forms of support for the Palestinian people and their just cause. The statement praised the Palestinian resistance, stating that it "has been and continues to be at the level of responsibility entrusted to it in carrying the Palestinian cause and defending it with life and soul."

The rally reiterated the Yemeni people's solidarity with the Palestinian cause, calling on the international community, represented by the Security Council and the United Nations, to enforce international law and punish the Israeli occupation for its repeated violations of everything Palestinian, land and people, and renewed the call for the International Criminal Court to take immediate action to implement the rulings against war criminals and perpetrators of genocide.

Last Wednesday, Hamas announced the assassination of Haniyeh in a "treacherous Israeli attack" on his residence in Tehran, following his participation in the inauguration ceremony of the new Iranian president on Tuesday.

For the ninth consecutive month, Marib has witnessed solidarity events with the Palestinian people, who are facing a brutal and destructive war by the Israeli occupation, with unprecedented Western and American support.

These protests are attended by hundreds of citizens from various social and political segments, civil society organizations, university students, and religious institutions.
