In a statement released Saturday, August 3rd, 2024, Ahmed Ali Abdullah Saleh, former Yemeni ambassador to the UAE, reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to peace in Yemen. Saleh, speaking for the first time since the lifting of UN sanctions against him and his late father, former President Ali Abdullah Saleh, expressed gratitude to the Presidential Leadership Council, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE for their role in securing the sanctions removal.

Saleh described the sanctions as "unjust" and highlighted the years spent fighting for justice and transparency. He considered the lifting of sanctions a victory for truth and justice, a vindication of his father's legacy, and a testament to the perseverance of his family. He praised the Presidential Leadership Council, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE for their support during the sanctions period.

Saleh emphasized that the sanctions period was a test of patience, determination, and unwavering commitment to the principles of freedom, security, stability, and peace for the Yemeni people. He reiterated his commitment to peace and reconciliation, stating that he will continue to support all efforts towards achieving lasting peace in Yemen and the region.

Saleh expressed his sincere appreciation for the UAE's support and hospitality, acknowledging their role as a steadfast ally during challenging times. He also acknowledged potential differences with the UAE, stating that they understood these disagreements and remained generous in their support for Yemen.

Saleh concluded his statement by reaffirming his commitment to peace, unity, and the building of a cohesive Yemeni state where all citizens can live with dignity, freedom, justice, and equality. He emphasized the importance of cooperation and harmony within Yemen and with its neighbors and the international community.

The UN Security Council's sanctions committee removed the names of Ali Abdullah Saleh and his son, Ahmed Ali Abdullah Saleh, from the list of individuals and entities obstructing peace in Yemen on July 30th, 2024. The decision was based on a review of their cases and the recognition that the sanctions were no longer necessary.

The lifting of sanctions marks a significant step towards reconciliation and stability in Yemen. It is hoped that this development will pave the way for a peaceful resolution to the ongoing conflict and a brighter future for the Yemeni people.
