The Yemeni Ministry of Interior, of the internationally recognized government, announced on Sunday, August 4, 2024, that it had apprehended 1700 individuals suspected of various criminal offenses in the provinces under its control during July.
According to a report published by the Security Media, affiliated with the Ministry of Interior, and monitored by "Barran Press," the arrests were distributed across different governorates, with 388 suspects apprehended in Taiz, 338 in Marib, 313 in Hadhramaut Coast, 211 in the temporary capital Aden, and 160 in Shabwah.
The report stated that 92 suspects were apprehended in Al-Dhale, 74 in Hadhramaut Valley and Desert, 46 in Mahra, 31 in Hodeidah, 24 in Abyan, and 24 in Hajjah.
During the same period, security forces managed to solve 1529 crimes out of 2064 reported across various governorates, based on security reports submitted to the Operations Room of the General Directorate of Command and Control.
According to the Ministry of Interior's classification, the solved crimes in July included 36 intentional murder cases, 56 attempted murder cases, 455 cases of intentional injury, 270 cases of various thefts, and 166 cases of assault on property.
Security forces also apprehended 86 cases of breach of trust, 83 cases of fraud and deception, 46 cases of threats, 43 cases of possession, use, and trafficking of narcotics, 40 cases of defamation and insult, and 33 cases of resisting authorities and assault on public property and officials.
Simultaneously, 25 cases of violation of home sanctity, 21 cases of non-payment of debts, 20 cases of intentional explosions and arson, 19 cases of firing and exchanging fire, 15 cases of terrorism and sabotage, 15 cases of alcohol sales and consumption, 15 cases of parental disobedience, and 15 cases of assault on private property were solved.
The Ministry also reported the apprehension of 13 cases of robbery and theft, 12 cases of sexual assault and rape, 8 cases of kidnapping, 8 cases of finding bodies with suspicion, 4 cases of adultery, 4 cases of sodomy, 4 cases of forgery, 4 cases of indecent acts, 3 cases of possession of lost items, 3 cases of unintentional murder, and 2 cases each of defamation, slander, smuggling, violation of the sanctity of the dead, extortion, and insulting religion, as well as one case each of a girl's escape, illicit seclusion, possession of weapons, animal torture, and possession of an animal without permission.
The Ministry attributed the high number of crimes recorded in July to a lack of social deterrence and a lack of awareness, as well as illegal earnings.
Other contributing factors mentioned include personal and family disputes, land and property disputes, personal and tribal vendettas, economic and social conditions, hooliganism, disregard for the law, the proliferation of weapons, financial transactions without contracts and documentation.
