HODEIDAH, YEMEN - A Kuwaiti charity has become the first international organization to offer aid to victims of recent devastating floods in Yemen, according to the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA). The "Al-Najat Charity Society" has pledged 50,000 Kuwaiti dinars (approximately $165,000 USD) in emergency relief.

The aid package includes food and shelter supplies, targeting 1,000 families affected by the floods. Abdullah Al-Shahab, head of resource management, public relations, and media at Al-Najat, stated that this initial aid is a continuation of the charity's humanitarian efforts in various countries, particularly those facing crises and disasters.

The aid consists of 1,000 food baskets, 250 tents, blankets, mattresses, and 250 water tanks.

The floods, which began on Tuesday, August 6th, have caused widespread damage in the Hodeidah governorate, particularly in the Tihama plain. Reports indicate that entire neighborhoods have been submerged, resulting in significant human and material losses.

Sources reported numerous missing individuals, including children, women, and elderly, swept away by the floods in various areas. Dozens of homes have been destroyed, including one that collapsed on a family, killing the parents and two women.

Despite the devastation, sources claim there has been little to no response from the Houthi authorities, who control the governorate and are designated as a terrorist group by several countries.

The floods, the worst in decades, have highlighted the vulnerability of the Yemeni population, already struggling with a protracted civil war and humanitarian crisis.
