Lightning Strikes Claim Four Lives in Sana'a and Al Mahwit, Total Death Toll Reaches 60 Since July

Four individuals, two men and two women, were killed by lightning strikes in the past few hours in the governorates of Sana'a (central Yemen) and Al Mahwit (northwest Yemen), according to local sources on Sunday, August 11, 2024. This brings the total number of lightning strike victims since the beginning of July to 60.

Sources told "Barran Press" that a lightning strike hit the "Masar" fort in the "Manakha" district (west of Sana'a), killing the wife of citizen "Mohammed Al-Bar'ei."

In the same district, another lightning strike claimed the life of a young man from the "Beit Al-Quraish" family in the village of "Bani Khattab." A third lightning strike killed another young man from the "Beit Dahsh" family in the village of "Al-Hijrah."

On Saturday evening, a lightning strike killed the wife of citizen "Ali Mohammed Sha'wei Al-Dahmasi," 25, while she was in her home in the village of "Deir Al-Humrah" in the "Al-Ahjul Al-Asfal" area of the Jabal Al Mahwit district.

With the arrival of the autumn rainy season, lightning strikes have become more frequent. Since the beginning of July, "Barran Press" has recorded 39 deaths, including women and children, and 17 injuries due to lightning strikes in several governorates. This brings the total number of deaths to 43 and injuries to 17.
