Al-Bayda, Yemen: A tribal mediation effort has successfully ended the siege imposed by the Houthi group, designated as a terrorist organization by several countries, on the village of "Hammat Sarar" in the "Walad Rabie" district of Al-Bayda governorate (central Yemen).
Tribal sources told "Barran Press" on Sunday, August 11, 2024, that the mediation successfully de-escalated tensions between the Houthi group and the residents of "Hamma Sarar" in Qaiqa, lifting the siege that had been imposed since last Wednesday.
According to the sources, the agreement reached includes: lifting the siege and removing any checkpoints from the village road, the handover of the bodies of two villagers killed in clashes with the Houthis, and the return of four individuals wanted by the Houthis in exchange for the bodies, with their safety guaranteed by the tribal mediators.
The tribal mediators, after successfully lifting the siege, left the village to retrieve the bodies of two young men from the village who were killed last Wednesday in clashes with Houthi forces at a checkpoint on the road leading to the village.
The Iranian-backed Houthi group, in a statement published on the "X" platform, claimed that their security operation in "Hamma Sarar" was successful and lifted after the cooperation of citizens, alluding to the tribal mediation.
Last Wednesday, clashes erupted between Houthi elements and residents of "Hamma Sarar" after two young men were killed at a Houthi checkpoint on the road leading to the village. The clashes resulted in the deaths of approximately four Houthi fighters, including two snipers stationed in the village mosque minaret who opened fire on residents before being killed by villagers.
