Yemenia Airways announced on Sunday, August 11, 2024, the resumption of operations at its maintenance center at Sana'a International Airport, controlled by the Houthi group, which is designated as a terrorist organization by several countries. The center had been inactive for 10 years.
In a statement published on its Facebook page, seen by Barran Press", the airline stated that it had inaugurated the maintenance center in Sana'a by performing an "A-check" maintenance on its Sokotra AFC aircraft, an A320 model.
Yemenia Airways highlighted that the center is staffed by highly qualified and skilled personnel and is equipped with all the necessary equipment and resources to conduct regular and ongoing inspections and maintenance for all aircraft.
The center, which began operations on Sunday, includes a number of workshops, hangars, and two departments for procurement and materials, according to the statement.
The company stated that it had performed the "A-check" maintenance on the Sokotra AFC, an A320 model, after its forced suspension in 2015. The airline emphasized that the center will contribute to enhancing the performance and efficiency of Yemenia Airways in aircraft maintenance.
On July 28, 2024, Yemenia Airways announced the resumption of civilian flights to Cairo and India via Sana'a International Airport, after a suspension of several weeks following the Houthi group's seizure of four of the airline's aircraft at Sana'a Airport.
According to a statement from Yemenia Airways, flights from Sana'a to Cairo and back are scheduled to operate daily, while flights from Sana'a to India and back are scheduled twice a week.
The statement mentioned that the opening of the Cairo and India routes is in accordance with the agreement recently announced by the UN envoy, confirming that flights to Cairo and India via Sana'a International Airport will begin on Sunday evening.
Previously, Yemenia Airways announced the resumption of flights from Sana'a International Airport to Jordan, with three daily flights, and opened ticket sales for discounted fares through Yemenia offices.
On July 23, the office of the UN Special Envoy to Yemen announced an agreement between the internationally recognized Yemeni government and the Houthi group, designated as a terrorist organization by several countries, on several de-escalation measures regarding the banking sector and Yemenia Airways.
The agreement included "the resumption of Yemenia Airways flights between Sana'a and Jordan, increasing the number of flights to three daily, and operating flights to Cairo and India daily or as needed."
