The President of the Arab Parliament, Adel Al-Asoumi, reaffirmed on Wednesday, August 14th, 2024, the Parliament's support for all Arab and international efforts aimed at achieving a comprehensive political solution to the Yemeni crisis.

Al-Asoumi made the statement during a meeting with the President of the Yemeni Shura Council, Ahmed Obeid bin Daghr, in the Egyptian capital Cairo, according to the official Yemeni news agency Saba.

Al-Asoumi stated that the Arab Parliament supports resolving the Yemeni crisis “in accordance with the three references, namely the Gulf Initiative and its implementation mechanism, the outcomes of the Comprehensive National Dialogue Conference, and the UN Security Council resolutions, particularly resolution 2216.”

The President of the Arab Parliament highlighted the efforts of the Presidential Leadership Council to achieve security and stability in Yemen, expressing hope for the restoration of stability in Yemen as soon as possible and declaring his support for these endeavors.

In turn, President of the Shura Council, Ahmed Obeid bin Daghr, commended the Arab Parliament's efforts in defending the Yemeni cause in regional and international forums, praising its stance in support of Yemen's security and stability.

On December 23rd, 2023, the United Nations announced that the Yemeni parties had reached understanding to commit to a set of measures, including implementing a ceasefire encompassing all of Yemen, taking steps to improve living conditions in Yemen, and engaging in preparations to resume a comprehensive political process under the auspices of the United Nations.

The roadmap and peace efforts in Yemen have been stalled since November 2023 due to attacks by the Houthis, globally designated as a terrorist group, against commercial cargo ships in the Red Sea, the Arabian Sea, and the Gulf of Aden.
