OSAILAN, SHABWAH, YEMEN – Tribal clashes between two families from the Al-Awaliq tribe in the Osailan district of Shabwah governorate (eastern Yemen) resumed on Wednesday, August 14th, 2024, after a temporary truce collapsed, according to tribal sources.

Sources told "Barran Press" that intense fighting broke out on Wednesday evening, involving heavy and medium weapons between the families of "Al-Ahmed bin Farid" and "Al-Abubakr bin Farid" in the Osailan district. The clashes followed the breakdown of a previously agreed-upon tribal ceasefire.

Sources confirmed that mediation efforts led by Sheikh Nasser bin Hussein al-Diyani and Sheikh Salem bin Nasser al-Marzouqi failed on Wednesday evening. The two parties remained obstinate and rejected all proposed solutions offered by the tribal mediators.

The renewed clashes stem from an ambush on the District Director of Osailan, Sheikh Abubakr bin Farid bin Abubakr al-Awlaki, in the "Al-Masha'a" area last Wednesday, August 7th, 2024, while he was returning from Ataq, the governorate's capital. The attack resulted in the death of one of his companions and injuries to two others.

Previous tribal clashes between the two families erupted in early July, involving heavy weaponry. The fighting in the Osailan district prompted the deployment of a joint force from Ataq, the capital of Shabwah, by the Southern Giants Forces and Shabwah Defense to quell the fighting.
