A large gathering of government officials and citizens gathered in Marib, northern Yemen, on Saturday, August 17th, 2024, to mourn the passing of Dr. Abdulghani Nasr Al-Shamiri, Yemen's ambassador to Indonesia.
According to the official Yemeni news agency Saba, the condolences were attended by Marib Deputy Governor Ali Al-Fatemi, Abdulربه مفتاح, and Deputy Head of the Political Security Apparatus, Nur al-Din Yami, along with "a large crowd of media professionals and journalists who loved the deceased."
Attendees praised the deceased's character, and national and revolutionary roles, emphasizing that his passing was a significant loss for Yemen. They described him as "one of the fighters who engaged in national work in the media, diplomatic, and cultural fields until his death, a dedicated patriot to his homeland, its values, and principles."
Ambassador Al-Shamiri passed away on August 10th at the MMC Hospital in Jakarta, Indonesia, after a health setback.
The Yemeni Ministry of Foreign Affairs, recognized by the international community, mourned the ambassador, stating that "the nation has lost a prominent diplomatic, political, and media figure," according to the official Saba news agency.
Al-Shamiri was born in the Mqbna district west of Taiz in 1964 and earned his doctorate from Morocco. He was a prominent media figure in Yemen, holding numerous official positions within the Presidency, the Ministry of Information, and radio and television institutions.
He also held various national and diplomatic roles, most recently as Yemen's resident ambassador to Indonesia. He also served as a non-resident ambassador to Singapore, Brunei, and Australia since his appointment in mid-2018.
