Flash Floods and Lightning Strikes Claim Young Lives in Yemen

 A young girl drowned in flash floods in Shabwah Governorate, eastern Yemen, on Saturday, August 17th, 2024, while a child was killed by lightning in Hajjah Governorate, northwest Yemen.

Local sources told Barran Press that the daughter of Adnan Salem Saleh Al-Muslami drowned in the flash floods of Ain Wadi in the Ain district, northwest Shabwah.

In Hajjah Governorate, local sources told Barran Press that lightning killed a child named Shadi Ali Hadi in the Al-Mazawtah area of the Shaghadara district.

They added that the rural hospital in Abs received a man in critical condition after being struck by lightning in the Al-Ruba' area.

With the arrival of the autumn rainy season, lightning strikes have become increasingly common. Barran Press has documented 47 deaths, including women and children, and 17 injuries from lightning strikes in several governorates since the beginning of July. This brings the total number of fatalities to 48 and the number of injured to 18.
